Minardi for your time
1999 is when I started.
Today was the day I had to end it all.
Moments ago, I made a phone call that lasted less than 9 minutes total. Believe me, I thought it would have lasted 10 times longer than that — figured that the person on the other end of the phone would beg me to stay and offer anything to do so.
But the call was truly less than 9 minutes. I guess it helped mute the pain of doing something that I’ve been dreading for the past month. Surprisingly, I’ve been treated well over those 17 years when I know others never felt the same.
*sigh*
But it was time.
I’ve canceled my DirecTv service this evening.
Told them that I was moving soon (I am, but not as soon as I like to). They said the service was available everywhere now, but I told them that I didn’t have a choice (I do, of course). They asked if I was moving into an assistant living home and I said not yet (not close to being old enough and can still take care of myself). I just said the building I was going to wouldn’t allow it (although a federal, legal “grey area” would allow it in your favor, it’s such a pain in the ass that it’s not worth it), so they understood and processed my cancelation.
All under 9 minutes.
...Plus I fucking hate AT&T so as long as they own DirecTv, I’m never going back!

I cancelled Comcast the other year and it went surprisingly well. The place I was moving in to didn't have the coverage so that made it easy.

You said having to make a phone call and 17 years, I thought you were traveling and your cat had to be put down. Getting rid of DirecTV, is not sad. They are probably just as bad as all the other cable companies.

Every time I visit my parents and watch cable I wonder why people pay for that crap. Lowest-common-denominator reality shows, biased, uninformative propaganda news, and hundreds of shitty channels nobody cares about. There are hundreds of entertainment options out there, and most of them are better than cable.

We cut the cord last year, I can watch cartoons on line, our football team was not worth watching last year, (GO RIDERS!) I don’t miss it, there’s nothing good on t.v. Bring back Balki and Cousin Larry and we’ll see....

Riders as in Saskatchewan Roughriders?

Are there any other Roughriders? (well there used to be)

honestly, I think the parents just hit a technology wall. they are using my HBO GO login, one sister’s Amazon Prime account, and another sister’s Netflix account. But they still have to have cable! They can’t function without it.
hell, i think my dad switch to DirecTV recently for a deal (he owns his own box, so he doesn’t have to do a contract)

once upon a time our 8 or 9 team league had the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Ottawa Rough Riders. Ottawa folded a couple of times, came back as the Renegades, folded and are now the Ottawa RedBlacks. Sask won’t let them use the name, which is too bad because it’s a funnier than farts only in Canada thing, But Saskatchewan is not renowned for it’s sense of Humour. Also The other Riders had a long history of slaughtering our Riders.

The Coveted Riders Loonie, just two of these can be exchanged for a Tim Horton’s Coffee. (which isn’t that good) Associated car trivia: Tim Horton was killed crashing a yellow 71 Pantera.

The only reason I’d get DirecTV is for the NFL. Other than that, paid cable/satellite is behind me.

We got an antenna after we canceled cable. It’s great! It’s like 150 bucks or so and we get like 25 HD channels for free forever. I get most of the NFL games I care about, and I live in Canada. You would most likely get all of the games if you live in the US.
